So start small and gradually increase the number of grounds until you find your perfect cup.
Is Bold Coffee Too Bitter?
Bold coffee being too bitter is a common misconception among novice coffee drinkers.
There are some relationships between strength and bitterness, but they are not mutually inclusive. Bitter coffee is a result of over-extraction. It is caused by using very hot water, using finer coffee grounds, or keeping the coffee grounds in contact with the brewing water for a prolonged period.
But yes, bitterness and boldness can get conflated if you attempt to make extremely bold coffee.
For example, in a pour-over method, using very low coffee-to-water ratios (under 1:14). It will cause the water to take longer to pass through the coffee grounds. Thereby increasing contact time between the coffee grounds and water – ending up making bitter coffee.
